WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT?
The Scripture clearly warns us not to grieve the Holy Spirit.
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30-32. (NIV)
We understand through this verse it is possible to offend the Holy Spirit. But why is this so important?
It is so important because the Holy Spirit is essential. It is by His power that all aspects of our salvation in Christ Jesus are worked out. Holy Spirit is the only agent making every aspect of our salvation possible from beginning to end, from being born again through the final resurrection of our bodies.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians, “I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” Galatians 3:2-3 (NIV)
By this, we can rightfully conclude our personal relationship to the Holy Spirit is vital to the working out of our salvation.
In light of this truth, let us do everything to live pleasing to the Holy Spirit of God. For it is by Him that all of our inheritance in Christ is delivered to us.
In part two we will look at what grieves the Holy Spirit of God.
