How I Got My Church Involved in IMPACT?
Pastor Mike Byrum, Summit International Assembly of God
This turned out to be so simple, but very effective in establishing an IMPACT team.
1. I, as the pastor made a commitment to the importance of IMPACT and set my heart to establish a two hour block once per month that will be our church’s official monthly prayer meeting.
2. I made up a recruitment form and spent a few weeks announcing it and filling in the blanks. I didn’t stop harping until I filled it. In reality it wasn’t too hard. I was looking for four prayer leaders, a worship leader and as least one instrument.
3, I had our worship leader select 8-10 songs to have on hand.
4. I organized the two separate one hour blocks back to back. I divided the hour into four quarters and each leader was responsible for a 15 minute slot. I assigned them the subject and they were responsible to find scriptures related to the subject. The next hour was identical except for the change in subject matter.
Note: I found this a helpful strategy to mobilize more of my people to “step it up” concerning IMPACT and heighten the value of prayer in general. It gave them a small bite to chew. It gave them opportunity for ownership. And as a group it was very exciting.
