I am posting a series of blogs this week in hopes of focusing our attention on significant events from the last week of Jesus' earthly ministry. My format will simply be following God's command to "Remember to Observe". (Duet 5:15)
Here's how it works. 1) Remember: know what happened and why. 2) Observe: Do something to help put you in the moment and encounter God.
Here we go!
Monday of Holy Week
Remember: The Second Cleansing of the Temple.
Read Matt. 21:12-17; Mark 11:15-18; Luke 19:45-48.
What? Jesus enters the temple in Jerusalem and chases out the merchants
Why? The purpose of God's house was for prayer. Our Father's house was to be free from greed.
Observance: Today we are God's dwelling. With this in mind, find a quiet place and ask yourself two questions. 1) "Is this temple (me) a place of prayer?" 2) "Is my prayer life being choked out by selfish temporal pursuits?"
Lastly, invite Jesus into your heart to cleanse the temple (you). Sit quietly and let Him work.
Please comment below. I'd love for you to be part of building each other up in our holy faith.
